The game of Poker is easy to understand but the mastering of this game with all its variations will they say, take a lifetime to play 100%. There is so much theory and strategy behind every thought and move yet it still does not necessary yield a good result.
Daniel Negreanu, a six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and poker’s all-time tournament money winner took a step back last year to re-evaluate his strategies.
He is reported as saying that playing in the Poker Masters against young poker players from Germany, that they were outplaying him in certain situations and he seemed to always be a step behind in what they were doing and how they were playing.
Negreanu went on to say that he hired a couple of guys and they started work over a period of three months for four to six hours a day and three or four times a week working on concepts and learning game theory – the end result was essentially reworking his mind to have a starting point about how to think of a hand totally different to what he had ever done.
Negreanu finished second at the Bellagio in the first tournament he played after these learning lessons and then added two final tables at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, four final tables during the US Poker Open series in Vegas and, just days before the WSOP started, second in the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl. In his first big run of the 2018 World Series of Poker.
Negreanu will bring his poker strategies to MasterClass, an online educational platform that will be launching and bring users a unique look at how to approach the game. A key difference between this educational opportunity and others is that it isn’t aimed to assist beginners but rather those who have a firm understanding of the concepts.
Negreanu says he believes its more effective to give people a little bit more, thus he will be discussing stuff he has not shared publicly before such as a little bit on physical tells and body language, which is not something he has not typically done before. There will also be some talk about ranges — how to break those down — and think about the game from a more game-theory approach.
The MasterClass includes videos, workbooks and quizzes to ensure that students are getting a grasp of the concepts. He’ll also utilize footage from televised tournaments and break down the right and wrong decisions in each situation. Negreanu recommends a month would be the ideal timing to get the most of the course.
